Αφού έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα το πρώτο σκίτσο προκαλώντας ανάλογο ενδιαφέρον, η Ford δημοσίευσε τις πρώτες φωτογραφίες του Kuga λίγες μέρες πριν η έκθεση αυτοκινήτου της Φρανκφούρτης ανοίξει τις πύλες της. Όπως συνέβη και με το νέο Mondeo που συμβαδίζει με το σχεδιαστικό πρότυπο "Kinetic Design", η εμφάνιση του πρωτότυπου Kuga είναι αρκετά "ρεαλιστική" και ενδεχομένως το μοντέλο παραγωγής να διαφέρει ελάχιστα.
Tο Kuga θα βασίζεται στην πλατφόρμα C1 όπου μεταξύ άλλων βασίζονται τα Focus / C-Max, Land Rover Freelander, Mazda3, Volvo S40 και V50 ενώ αναμένεται να υπάρξουν εκτός από τετρακίνητες και προσθιοκίνητες εκδόσεις. Η παραγωγή του νέου Fordθα ξεκινήσει στις αρχές του 2008 στο εργοστάσιο της εταιρίας στο Saarlouis της Γερμανίας ενώ η πορεία του στην ευρωπαϊκή αγορά αναμένεται να ξεκινήσει την άνοιξη του 2008.
Η Ford έκανε πράξη την προ διετίας δέσμευσή της για την παραγωγή ενός Crossover/SUV, στo πρότυπo του πρωτότυπου Iosis X που παρουσιάστηκε στο Σαλόνι του Παρισιού το 2006, όπως ανέφερε ο Πρόεδρος και διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Ford Europe John Fleming. Ο επικεφαλής του τμήματος σχεδιασμού της εταιρίας Martin Smith είχε δηλώσει πως στη κατηγορία του Kuga οι αγοραστές ενδιαφέρονται ιδιαίτερα για το κύρος που τους προσδίδει το αυτοκίνητό τους και θέλουν κάτι ξεχωριστό με ιδιαίτερα καλή συμπεριφορά εντός δρόμου αλλά και αρκετές δυνατότητες για εκτός δρόμου κίνηση. Είναι σαφές ότι η περιγραφή ανήκει σε ένα όχημα ελευθέρου χρόνου με ασφάλτινο προσανατολισμό το οποίο θα ανταγωνιστεί μεσαία SUV όπως τα Honda CR-V, Τoyota RAV4 αλλά και τα επερχόμενα Mitsubishi Outlander και VW Tiguan.
